"People are quick to make a judgment about something before they see it or touch it and get hands-on with it," Papoutsis said. "That decision got made very early and those people have been dedicated to multiplayer ever since." Papoutsis was able to address some of the early concerns from fans that the Dead Space 2's single-player campaign may suffer due to development time being allocated to creating multiplayer content. "We needed to go into making multiplayer with a commitment to it, and that required us to designate a part of the team solely to working on it," he explained. "Our multiplayer allows for both cooperative and competitive gaming, and it also allows people to experience a different side playing as the Necromorphs, and of course, it has a piece connecting it to the story." The inclusion of multiplayer for Dead Space 2 wasn't a late addition to the development cycle by any means it was decided upon at the beginning of the game's pre-production phase. "We wanted to create a mode that would allow people to play the game and experience it with friends," Papoutsis said.
